In 1951, the Formula 1 World Championship restarted with its second edition organized by the FIA.

After the sporting and public success of the first edition, a season full of entertainment was expected.
The great champion Juan Manuel Fangio, after the defeat of the first season, was not discouraged and became Formula 1 World Champion for the first time, he would become so for 5 times, a record that remained unbeaten until 2003.
Season no. 2 will also be remembered for the withdrawal from racing of AlfaRomeo, absolute dominator of the races of the time, and for the first victory of Ferrari in Formula 1, thanks also to the intuition of the legendary Enzo Ferrari who understood that the future of racing was aspirated engines rather than compressed ones that had reached the pinnacle of technical development. In fact, Ferrari fielded a car with a 4500 cc aspirated engine that dominated the season.

1951 also marked the debut of BRM in Formula 1. The legendary British Racing Motor. The season begins with the first three races, excluding the Indianapolis 500, where Alfa Romeo always wins, Fangio wins in Switzerland, the first race of the season, Farina in the Belgian Grand Prix while in France the Fangio-Fagioli duo wins. But after these three races we witness an incredible improvement of the Ferraris and the decline of AlfaRomeo.
The season develops over 8 races starting from the Swiss Grand Prix and in addition to the classic circuits, still today, of Silverstone, Spa Francorchamps, Monza, Indianapolis, the legendary Nürburgring the season also stops in France and Spain.
Fangio with an AlfaRomeo in decline therefore becomes World Champion for season n. 2 and his career as a driver promises to be unstoppable.
